Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Whether you spent time away or stayed close to home, I trust you were able to rest, recharge, and enjoy some quality moments with your whānau.
It’s so good to see all your smiling faces again, ready for another term of exciting learning, new challenges, and opportunities to shine. A special thank you to our teachers for your hard work and preparation over the break. Your planning ensures we are starting Term 3 with strong, rich learning programmes across the school.
We’re also pleased to welcome all our new students to our wonderful kura and several new staff members to our team:
- Katy Beasley – Room 14 (Covering Kristie Daniels-Burl's maternity leave)
- Jade Lee – Room 20 (Fridays, Weeks 1–4; full-time from Week 5 covering Bree Poly's maternity leave)
- Heather Mackenzie – Room 2 (covering Chrissy Jones' overseas leave Weeks 1-6)
- Samantha Smith – Our new school contracted gardener, working every even week
We will officially welcome everyone on Friday, 18 July at our Mihi Whakatau from 10 am - ALL WELCOME.
This term, our Years 4–6 students will be exploring a performance-based inquiry aligned with the Technology Curriculum, leading up to our exciting Trash to Fashion Show at the end of the term. You’ll be designing, creating, and showcasing your ideas in a way that blends creativity, sustainability, and performance. Meanwhile, our Years 0–3 learners will be diving into a new inquiry about volcanoes and our local histories - learning about how the whenua was formed and the important stories of our place. Please check out the team newsletters by CLICKING THIS LINK.
There are also some exciting sporting events coming up, including the Hockey, Rippa Rugby, and Football Zone Days, where we’ll have the chance to demonstrate teamwork, fair play, and school pride. In the arts, we’re continuing to build momentum with the Marimba Festival, Kids Sing Choir, and our growing Kapa Haka rōpū. We’re also looking forward to celebrating Chinese Language Week, and wrapping up the term with Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, both wonderful opportunities to honour the languages and cultures that make our community so special.
MBS TV also continues this term, led by our Student Council - for students, by students. MBS TV captures and celebrates your learning journeys, sporting achievements, and artistic successes. More importantly, it provides a platform to share your voice, discuss real issues, and explore how we can support one another in living our school values and creating a better tomorrow, together.
As always, our focus is on helping each of you set goals, make progress, and reach your potential. Whether you're learning in the classroom, playing on the field, performing on stage, or showing leadership in the playground, remember that you are supported, valued, and part of something special here at MBS. We have high expectations for everyone and we are here to guide you along the way.
There are a few reminders to keep us all safe and organised. School opens each day at 8:30 am, so please arrive on time, ready to learn. If you arrive before 8:00 am, you must go to SKIDS. From 8:00 am onwards, please wait in the drop-off zones near your classrooms until the bell rings. Our playgrounds are closed before morning tea, as Mr Loader needs time to complete safety checks. After school, the playgrounds are only to be used if you are supervised by your whānau. If you're not picked up by 3:15 pm or are left without an adult, you will be asked to wait at the office so we can contact your caregivers. Teachers are often in meetings and planning sessions after school, so we encourage parents and caregivers to make an appointment if they wish to meet with a teacher.
As we are now in the winter season, please remember to wear shoes and bring a warm jacket every day. Let’s stay warm, dry, and healthy. As a bin-less school, it’s also important that all rubbish goes into your classroom bin or is taken home. Let’s continue to care for our environment. After lunch eating, please wait for the bell before heading out to play. This gives everyone enough time to eat and keeps our playground transitions safe and calm.
Let’s make Term 3 a term to remember - full of curiosity, creativity, kindness, and success. I’m so proud of each and every one of you and can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.
Kia hikaka, kia māia, kia pono te ngākau – Be motivated, be brave, be sincere.
We look forward to the new term with excitement, as we continue to nurture our tamariki and learn together to create a better tomorrow.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact your class teacher.
