Term 3 - Week 1

This is a special time to celebrate with our tamariki, kaimahi and whānau the magical time of Matariki, the Māori New Year. Our learning programme has been filled with a feast of art experiences, stories and songs - helping our tamariki to better understand who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going - he tangata, he tangata, he tangata, it’s all about the people. Our tamariki were excited to help prepare the display in the hall creating unique decorations that depicted the spirit of Matariki.  We also developed kites as part of our programme with support from local artists. Feel free to visit and see our creations on display at the Mairangi Art Centre over the next few weeks. Our Kapa Haka have also been working hard in preparation for this special occasion. Thank you everyone. A special thank you to Whaea Briar, Mrs Gimblett, Mrs Shea, Mrs Worthington Blair, and our Kapa Haka tutors - Kere and Nia from Te Pūheke. Your mahi, guiding our tamariki, is gratefully appreciated. It was also wonderful to see our whānau who joined us, celebrating and “learning together to create a better tomorrow’.  Thank you for your ongoing support, lasting relationships, and taking time out of your busy day to join us -  It is wonderful to share this special occasion with you.

Finally I would also like to thank David Dill-Russell from New World Milford for donating the sausages, and Skids, Mrs Whitfield and our PTA for their mahi at our sausage sizzle today.  We are all grateful for your contribution to our school.

As we bid farewell to Mrs Faulkner and Mrs Leith this week, we express our gratitude for their contributions to Mairangi Bay School. We are confident that their passion will continue to inspire the broader community.

We wish them both well on their next adventures.

Staff v Year 6's Netball

On Wednesday lunchtime our Year 6's challenged our staff to a game of Netball.  There was lots of cheering and support for both sides, but the staff took out the win!!

Science Activities
Room 5 would like to thank James's parents Keshala and Cameron for giving up their time to share their love of science with the class. They learnt the science behind dry ice. They also had fun making slime, painting with red cabbage and learning about how different solutions make the colour change. The third was an experiment called 'worms'.  The class got to see the solution change to a solid when warm water was added. We all had so much fun whilst learning so much.

North Harbour Netball Competition

Last week our two Year 6 Girls netball team took part in the North Harbour Netball Competition. The Year 6/1 team were bumped up into the A grade and demonstrated resilience by taking on the challenge and did exceptionally well against some tough teams. The games were very close and they fought till the end. The Year 6 Hui team also did really well and enjoyed the day playing the game they love. They had fun competing and taking part in the day. Thank you to the coaches and managers that helped on the day and to the parents that helped with driving the girls to this event. I really appreciate your support. Also a big thank you to Eva and Holly from Murrays Bay Intermediate School who helped ref all the games!

Waterpolo

The Year 2 and 3 Waterpolo team, Sharks, came third in the A grade. This is a fantastic achievement to come 3rd in the whole competition. The Sharks have been together since 2023, we are proud of their effort and for their resilience to get to this level in waterpolo. Congratulations to  Alice Wang, Wylie Suoliu, Jonathan Guo, Inuthi Abeygunawardene, James Weber, Ethan Wang, Zara Upston-Smith, Hudson Mizer and Atrisa Zarei.
