As Term 3 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our students and school community. This term has been filled with opportunities for learning, growth, and success, all while living our school values of atawhai (kindness), whakaute (respect), and manawanui (resilience).
One of the key highlights has been our inquiry learning, which explored the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. The Mini Olympics Day was a fantastic event, where senior and junior students worked together, displaying teamwork and companionship.
The Life Education van visit provided essential lessons for all year levels, while our Year 4 students were inspired during their trip to MOTAT, learning about innovation and technology. Our student council also had the unique opportunity to participate in the Community Kids Panel at Auckland Council, where they engaged in discussions on democracy and the design of the new Mairangi Bay playground.
In the arts, our Kids Sing Choir and Marimba Festival participants delivered captivating performances. Our sports teams, including those in Cluster Football, Netball, Hockey, and Gymnastics junior lessons, represented us with pride, showing skill, teamwork, and perseverance. Additionally, the Years 3-4 Learn to Swim programme has been an important part of ensuring our students’ safety and confidence in the water.
We also saw academic excellence during the Book Battle and senior speeches, where students demonstrated their competitive and communication skills. Te wiki ō te Reo Māori week and Chinese Language Week allowed us to celebrate the wonderful diversity within our school community, recognising and embracing the many cultures that make Mairangi Bay School unique.
The PTA once again demonstrated their outstanding support with a fun movie night, a math-a-thon and quiz event. Thank you so much to our sponsors and everyone who contributed to these events. We have now raised over $50,000 this year to support the upgrade of our playground and learning environment.
A shout-out goes to everyone involved in the community working bee, where we continued designing our beautiful kaitiaki garden, which will be a place of learning and sustainability for all our students.
Looking ahead to Term 4, we are excited to continue our learning journey as we investigate our local beaches as part of the Rocky Shore inquiry. We also look forward to our annual athletics day, the junior swimming programme, and the much-anticipated Christmas showcase. For our Year 6 students, Term 4 will be a time of celebration as they prepare for their graduation and the next step in their educational journey.
To our dedicated staff, thank you for your tireless efforts in creating a nurturing, challenging, and supportive environment for our students. To our wonderful students, you have shown tremendous growth and resilience. Finally, thank you to our whānau and community for your ongoing support - we really do appreciate you as we learn together to create a better tomorrow.
We can’t wait to see what Term 4 brings!

WIN: What’s Important Now? Instead of nagging - collaborate with our children to find a key area to focus on and master e.g. My WIN is having my school bag ready, “How’s your WIN going? Are you WINning today?”
