International Enrolment

Mairangi Bay School accepts international students based on the number of places available at the time of application.
To apply to enrol your child at Mairangi Bay School, please complete both the International Application Form and Refund Procedure and submit them to the school office together with your child’s most recent school reports and any English language achievements.

Admission

Conditions of Acceptance

Students are accepted for enrolment following an interview, assessment of English language skills as appropriate for year level and consideration of:

  • Level of written and spoken English Language
  • Previous school reports
  • Character references and testimonials
  • Academic ability for courses chosen
  • Co-curricular activities
  • Available places in the applied for Year Level
  • Suitable living arrangements

Student Placement

On acceptance and in consultation with the student, students are placed at an appropriate academic level. This placement is determined by the student’s academic ability, course content previously covered and age.

Orientation

Mairangi Bay School has a comprehensive orientation programme designed to orientate them with the school environment and our expectations as well as receiving ongoing pastoral care. On arrival, students are greeted by international staff, assisted with uniform and stationery, shown around the campus, and introduced to principal and support staff. They are also introduced to their buddies.

Code of Practice

Mairangi Bay School has been accepted as a signatory and has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, published by the Ministry of Education. International Students Fees

International Students Fees for 2022 have been set by the Board of Trustees as below

Tuition Fees

  • Full Year: NZ$13,000 (Incl GST)
  • 5% Family discount (when enrolling two or more siblings)

Fees do NOT cover the cost of

  • A one-off administration fee of $700.00 (Incl GST)
  • Government levy ($429.20 Incl GST)
  • Travel and medical insurance. Approximate $600 per student per year or family rates available. Medical and Travel insurance can be arranged before you leave your home country. Insurance can be arranged by the guardian, agent or school
  • Uniform items (Approximate uniform costs are $150.00)
  • Other activities (Camp for Years 5 and 6 to be determined at the beginning of each year, approximate $180) and after-school activities.

Fee Refund Policy

  • As fees are payable in advance, refunds may only be granted at the discretion of the Trustees in exceptional circumstances. The fee is refunded at the end of the enrolment period provided one full term’s notice of leaving has been given in writing to the school.

Other Requirements

Visa Requirements

All students are required to have a current student visa to be enrolled at Mairangi Bay School. Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service and can be viewed on their website at www.immigration.govt.nz.

Eligibility for Health Services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.

Accident Insurance

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz.

Medical and Travel Insurance

International students must have appropriate current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. The Director of International Students can provide information regarding available insurance options.
