Agathis Avenue

To keep our students safe, as a polite reminder, please avoid reversing in the turning bay on Agathis Avenue. From Term 2, if you are willing to help our Travelwise student leaders and monitors at the pick-up and drop-off area in the morning and afternoon, please sign up using this GOOGLE FORM.

Linewize

Through our partnership with Linewize (a company that helps us keep your children safe here at school while online) and Qustodio (an app for you to help monitor and keep your kids safe online while at home), you can have access to this free online safety hub (and therefore install the app on your phone) to protect two devices per household. You can restrict the times your child can use a device, give them only a certain amount of time (so the timer turns the game off, not you), and even restrict specific websites.

Some parents who attended the informational meeting last week, installed the app the following evening and reported that it is straightforward. Please watch the slideshow for further explanation and visit our school’s personal safety hub at mairangibay.onlinesafetyhub.nz.

Please visit our safety hub to install Qustodio on your phones. If you go to our hub, you will get the premium package for 30 days for free, and then you will have access to the standard package for free. Just going to our school hub gives you access. Add this protection and monitoring to your children’s devices today! If you have any questions, please see Mrs Webster in the office.

Reading at Home

Look inside our Kāhui Ako Guide for Reading at home and see what you can do with your children around reading at home!

Parent Supervision

Seeing so many parents connecting in the playground after school is great. If you wish to meet with your teacher, please make an appointment. As a polite reminder, please actively supervise your child to mitigate accidents and respect teacher collaboration time. Alternatively, from term 2, feel free to sign up for the following:

Teaching and Learning – Community and Identity Week 10

We have been excited this term, learning to embrace each other’s identities during our inquiry programme. Through the Social Students Curriculum, we have worked alongside our tamariki (children) to embrace our Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum to:

Understand how belonging to groups is essential for people.
Understand that people have different roles and responsibilities as part of group participation.
Understand how the past is essential to people.
Understand how people’s cultures in New Zealand are expressed daily.

We have been focusing on our individual cultures, the NZ culture, and what connections we have to other parts of the world. Next week, we have organised a ‘Community and Identity Week’ in school from the 3 – 6 April 2023. This celebration will conclude with a cultural parade in the morning on the 6th of April at our whole school assembly. Everyone is welcome to attend and dress up in their traditional outfits/cultural clothing. Assembly will begin at 9:15 am.

Throughout the week our classes will be celebrating our cultures in different ways. We would love some parents to come in and share parts of their culture with our tamariki eg. calligraphy, dance, song, and cooking. If you are available and keen to support this learning, please message your classroom teacher. As a polite reminder, please sign in at the office in case of emergencies.

Emergency Practice Wednesday 5 April

We would like to inform you in advance, we have organised an emergency practice on Wednesday 5 April – Block 1. This will only have a small impact on our community and identity week.

Shore to Shore

Thank you for your support at the Shore to Shore over the weekend. We are pleased to announce that we had over 150 members of the Mairangi Bay School participating – a record for our kura. Thank you to Kris Cunningham and the team at Harcourts for your generosity, and to Julia, Di, and Anna for helping our tamariki and serving on the sausage sizzle.

We are truly blessed and grateful for your mahi (work).

Museum Trip

Rooms 3, 4, and 5 had a fabulous day at the Museum. They learned about the parts of Te Whare Tipuna Hotunui (Maori meeting house) and created a haka to show the meaning of the various parts. The students learned to weave with flax, hold a moa bone, use a traditional wooden drill with string, and saw a flute being played through the nose!

Bunnings Sponsorship

Bunnings – Constellation Drive, is a new sponsor at Mairangi Bay School, supporting the development of our kaitiaki gardens and physical space.  This Thursday, 30 March, they are hosting a free family event with entertainment and D.I.Y from 5 pm-7 pm.

I would like to thank all our sponsors for their support this term, bringing our community vision to life. Your care and generosity are truly appreciated.
