Shore-2-Shore
For all information on Sunday’s Shore-2-Shore, please see this link.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the Shore-2-Shore this Sunday 26 March. We now have 134 participants supporting our kura (school) and joining in a fun community event. Please remember to meet at Takapuna Grammar School at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am start. Traffic will be busy on Sunday, so I suggest arriving early and bringing suitable walking footwear and a water bottle. If participating, please come to the school office on Thursday or Friday from 3:00 pm-3:20 pm this week to collect your number, bus ticket, and safety pins. Mrs. Kruyen and the Harcourts Team – led by our sponsor Kris Cunningham, will be at the finish line preparing a free sausage sizzle for you to enjoy. Remember to look out for our MBS banner and marquee. I would like to thank Di Kruyen (our in-school sports leader) for organising this event and Kris’s generosity in supplying free sausages to ensure our Mairangi Bay School community has a great day out together. Ngā Mihi (Thank you).
Travel-Wise School Leaders
Thanks to our wonderful Travelwise Student Leaders for ensuring the drop-off at school this morning was a safe and enjoyable experience for both parents and children. We’d also like to thank our new Walking School Bus drivers, who had around 10 students on their first trip to school. There were many excited and smiling ‘passengers’, and we hope to spread the word that walking to school is a fun and healthy way to travel. If there are any other adults who think they might like to become ‘drivers’ please let us know.
Walking School Bus (WSB)
We now have one route led by our passionate whānau. They are working together to organise more WSB routes and reduce the traffic around Mairangi Bay School in the coming weeks. Thank you for your displaying manaakitanga (care and generosity) and katiakitanga (guardianship).
Teaching and Learning – Community and Identity Week 10
We have been excited all term, learning to embrace each other’s identity during our inquiry programme this term. Through the Social Students Curriculum, we have worked alongside our tamariki (children) to embrace our Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum to:
Understand how belonging to groups is essential for people.
Understand that people have different roles and responsibilities as part of group participation.
Understand how the past is essential to people.
Understand how people’s cultures in New Zealand are expressed daily.
Week 10 is a time for celebration, showcasing our learning with our peers and whānau. Your child’s class teacher will contact you soon to share how you can be part of this learning together. We will complete the term with an end-of-term values assembly and identity/ community parade showcasing costumes or traditional attire.
We look forward to celebrating together soon through whanaungatanga (home-school partnership).
