Kia ora koutou,

There has been another announcement from the Prime Minister in regards to a change in the Covid-19 alert levels due to an additional case in Papatoetoe.

As a result, the Government announced at 9pm that the whole of Auckland will move from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 3 for the next 7 days from 6.00am Sunday 28 February.

That means that where possible you should keep your children home from school for this period: Monday 1 March until Monday 8th March. There will be another announcement next weekend which could see a return to school on Monday 8th March.

Mairangi Bay School will be open for those of you who have no other options but to send your children to school and we will have safety precautions in place to look after them.

PLEASE REPLY TO THE EMAIL SENT TO PARENTS THIS SATURDAY EVENING IF YOU ARE SENDING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL, so that we can plan accordingly.
At this time we are activating our distance learning plan for Monday morning, and will contact parents and students as soon as this is up and running, as we did in the previous short lockdown.  As with the previous lockdown, teachers will stagger zoom and google meet sessions so that devices can be shared through families.  We will monitor the success of our online catch ups next week to see if we need to make school devices available.  Teachers will be asked to check in with you about device usage.

We want to ensure that as few staff, students and personnel are in school as possible to meet the Level 3 requirements. First and foremost we want to stay connected to you and your tamariki. COVID-19 continues to be a factor we need to consider, and I assure you we have a robust plan and will do everything we need to for your children and your wider family and whānau.

If the situation changes, we will be in touch again. Please contact us if you have any concerns or questions, and if you must send your child to school please reply to this email as we need to create school bubbles to support the Level 3 Covid-19 regulations.

Acting Principal (Mairangi Bay School)
