We are off to a good start. There is a good vibe. Classroom programmes are up and running. There are lots of smiling faces.
It is good to see the children who were in voluntary isolation (Coronavirus ) returning and we thank their parents for making our community’s safety the priority.
We welcome back our Te Reo kaiako Maranui Davis who starts this week and it was exciting to see the Year 5-6 Garden to Table programme swing into operation last Thursday.
Thank you to the 100+ people who have responded to the Meet the Teacher Survey. (emailed last week). You haven’t yet? It is not too late. It will be open for another 3-4 days.

School Calendar and Teacher Only Days (school closed)
If you like to plan well ahead please note that the school will be closed for two days this year. They are both Fridays to make it easier for those who can take a long weekend. The Board has approved two teacher only days in 2020, as per the requirements of the Collective Agreement 2019, viz.. 29 May and 21 August to align with the local Kahui Ako schools (Rangitoto College and Murrays Bay Intermediate) so that parents can effectively manage child care. Also, note that the ANZAC Day holiday Monday 27 April so Term 2 starts on Tuesday 28 April. You can check school events at any time on our website. https://www.mairangibay.school.nz/calendar/
Social media and photos
Several schools have reported issues with some parents who post photos of other people’s kids. It is timely to remind our community that photos of other people’s children should not be posted unless you have sought and received permission from the parents.
Music has started again at MBS with Junior classes last week and Middle classes this week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Senior classes will follow next week.
Extension music groups – Year 5-6 have the opportunity to join these groups: APPA Choir, Marimba, Hand chime and Ukulele Club.
These are held on Thursdays and a message will go in the daily notices when these groups will start.
Year 3-4 have the opportunity to join the Ukulele Club starting in March which are held on Thursdays at lunchtime.
Marimba Festival group forms are due on Wednesday 19 February. Please leave at the school office or with Mrs McCormack.
