Principal’s Message
Tēnā koutou
We congratulate our APPA Festival choir for an outstanding performance in the Auckland Town Hall recently. Our Marimba group did us proud as the stand out instrumental group on a programme delivered the week before.
Last week we hosted a morning tea for the many people who volunteer their services on road patrol, helping in classrooms, running a PTA project or any one of many more activities where parents and other community members give their time to help our kids and our school. If you were unable to join us, please accept my thanks on behalf of the staff. A special thank you to those of you who have served for years and now move on.
The final assembly will be an opportunity for us all to say goodbye to Kate Hooper, Ryan McWilliams , Siobhan Cooper, and Nicolette Land. Join us on 13 December at 1:40 pm in our school hall. Christine Wightman is farewelled on 18 December. Everyone is welcome to these special events. Fortunately, next year Ryan will still be here at Skids, Christine will teach one day a week and Siobhan will return part-time after her travels.
This is the last of our regular newsletters for this year. I thank everyone who has worked so hard for what we do at Mairangi Bay School to create the best learning environment for our children. We have mixed feelings at this time. We are sorry to see our Year 6 students leave, many of them have spent most of their lives with us. We are excited for them because we know they have so much to offer their new schools.
Merry Christmas to you all. I wish you the best of the festive season and a relaxing holiday.
Kind regards, Bruce

Mairangi Bay School – Skids Holiday Programme
EPro8
Engineering/science concept problem solving, teamwork, and time management skills came to the fore last week as Team Transformers won their EPro8 semi-final at Takapuna Normal Intermediate. Harrison Jones, Joel Jansen, Lucas Cornford and Oscar Williams (subbing in for Charli Burkett) came joint first and earned a place in the Auckland finals.
Transformers battled it out with 23 other teams at Mount Roskill Intermediate last Friday. A slow start meant they were struggling to play catch up against a very talented field. Victoria Avenue School won the final after a tie break. The students in Transformers were our first ever representatives in the EPro8 Final. Well done all 5 members of this team.
ICAS
ICAS results have showcased our brilliant readers, writers and scientists. Students who earn either distinction (top 10% of students) or high distinction (top 1% of students) were presented at 2 different assemblies this term.
In science, Hunter Davies, Ella Nel, Aston Ding, Daniel Feng, Elsa Lu and Hayden Chan gained distinctions.
In English, Meera Mistry and Hayden Chan scored distinctions. Ella Nel gained a high distinction.
In maths, Joel Jansen, Hayden Chan, Elsa Lu, Lucas Cornford and Oscar Jin scored distinctions.
Congratulations to all these students.
