We have tremendous support from parents at our school and each year we acknowledge this significant contribution at a morning tea. Next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. we invite all of the parents who have helped this year to join us for refreshments in our school hall.
An excellent example of parent help is the hospitality provided to our visitors on Grandparents and Friends day. Hundreds were offered tea, coffee and home baking. Our PTA parents hosted these big numbers efficiently and with a smile. This effort was very much appreciated by the grandparents and by our staff.
We also thank Clare McCormack and her musicians for the entertainment and our children for hosting our visitors so well.
I look forward to Wednesday night’s performance at the Auckland Town Hall when our festival choir performs with several other schools in this splendid auditorium. Congratulations to our Behind Bars Marimba group who performed as the featured instrumentalists at the APPA Festival performance last week in the same venue.
Edmond Jia (Year 6) has been selected as a member of the national table tennis squad (under 12-year-olds). This achievement is commendable and due to his commitment to practice. A great effort, congratulations Edmond.
Thank you to all of you who have completed the area of service survey. Responses can still be added until the end of this week.
We are grateful to a parent, John Jansen, who has provided a number of stunning aerial photos of our school.

Our new student: Rayden Kocks and his family.
Our dedicated road patrol wardens do their utmost to ensure you and your children can safely cross the road. They are out in all weathers every day of the school year. We would like you to use the road patrol crossing even if you are running late and it is more convenient to cross with your child further up Matipo Road. It’s a small thing but sets an excellent example for others.
Some children in Year 5-6 will come home tomorrow with an invitation to participate in research run by the University of Auckland.
Congratulations to the Ukulele Club children that performed at the Ukulele Festival on the 16 November. A great day of parades and music for all.
Congratulations to the Behind Bars Marimba Group who performed in the Town Hall on Wednesday 20 November. What wonderful musicians you are. Thank you for being committed to this group for 2019.
Congratulations to the Grandparents and Friends Day performers on Friday 22 November.
Thank you for showing your talents on marimba, hand chimes, recorder, ukulele, culture group, choir. Thank you for working so hard on music this year.
This week our APPA Choir performs on Wednesday 27 November to a sold out Town Hall audience. Your parents and family are so looking forward to this event.
Year 6 Parents – It is that time of year again when we are gathering information for our End of Year awards. If your child is a rep level sportsperson, either regional or national, that would help us in our evaluation of best overall sports boy and sports girl, please email Ryan McWilliams by Monday 25th November.

Senior Leaving Ceremony 17th December
As you may have read in the PTA newsletter we would like to start a new tradition to thank those parents who have supported the PTA’s events during their child’s journey at Mairangi Bay School. By saying thank you to them for their support by providing some canapes and refreshments, we need the support from year 0-5 families, so when it’s your turn you can relax and enjoy the event too.
