Principal’s Message

Kia orana

This week we celebrate Cook Islands language week and thank the Rev Tokorau Joseph for volunteering his time to work with teachers and students. The theme for this year is “Taku rama, taau toi: ora te Reo” – “My Torch, Your Adze: The Language Lives.” The Cook Islands flag is flying with the New Zealand flag in our school this week.

We also thank all parents who have made helping on school trips a priority this week. Visits to MOTAT /Mindlab and to the Auckland Zoo promise to ignite new learning.  Let’s hope the weather cooperates.

Congratulations to all our students and ex-students who performed in Annie. (see School Notices) and a special shout out to ex-Mairangi Bay School student  Amelia Ullrich who has returned from the Dance World Cup in Portugal. She competed with 6,000 dancers from 53 countries gaining 10th place in her huge age group. This is a commendable achievement.

Members of the PTA have been working hard to put together a fun night this Saturday. The Bingo night is at Bar Africa and tickets are selling well. Be quick. The next PTA meeting is at 730 pm on Tuesday 13 August. It is a great group of people supporting our school. All welcome.

Best regards

Kia hikaka, kia māia, kia pono te ngakau.

Sports News

Touch Rugby

If you would like your child to play Touch in Term 4 please read the information below.

Dates: Games beginning in October Week 1 of Term 4. Start Dates:
Monday 14th (Year 3-6)
Tuesday 15th (Year 1-2)

Please note Mairangi Bay School will not be entering teams into Thursday night competitions

Venues: Venues cannot be confirmed until the Council allocate all bookings. Local Touch has applied for Ashley Reserve for Mondays, Mairangi Bay Park for Tuesdays. Venues will be known by early September. We know this isn’t ideal, but we ask schools to be patient and flexible when entering teams.

Please get registration forms in by 23rd of August if you wish your child to play Touch in Term 4, registrations after this date will go on a waitlist. Where possible, I attempt to place your child in a team with friends, however, this is not always possible. The Sports Co-coordinator placement of children in teams is final.

Please drop registrations into school office or email through to

Ryan McWilliams
Sports coordinator
