Principal’s Message

Kia ora tatau

I hope everyone enjoyed the last fortnight. It is good to see our children back at school ready for another term of  learning. Our theme  is change so you can expect your child to be learning about physical and chemical changes. This inquiry has a science focus.

Over the break, further work was completed to establish the garden at the top of the drive and earthworks were completed to prepare for the outdoor play based learning area. The new shade sails were removed for the winter terms and will reappear for summer. I thank teachers who have been busy preparing for the term ahead which will include our school production in the final week.

Several student leaders are providing an ANZAC presentation to the school assembly this Friday. All welcome.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback (via the survey in our newsletter) about 2019 school term dates. More information to follow.

Kind regards
Bruce Warren

Communication: Keeping it simple!

As advised last term, from today we are no longer using the Flexibuzz app. This app relies on parents to update it each year and we have found this to be a problem. We need a simple system that we know will reach everyone every time. (especially in an emergency such as a lockdown).

From today..

  • All communications are emailed to you. You do not need to do anything apart from checking your inbox (and updating the school if you change your email address). This is how we have been sending this school newsletter for some time.
  • You can download the @schoolmobile app. This app is developed by eTAP which is the student management software our school uses. Once set up you will not have to to make changes each year when your child changes classes because this will happen automatically. This app will provide access to the school calendar, a quick way to notify an absence and soon it will allow you to access your child’s reports electronically. @schoolmobile is not yet essential but it will become so.

So, all you need do is check your inbox and know you are getting the information we need you to read. Then, if you want the extras, set up the @schoolmobile app on your smartphone. Many people have set this up already. You need a unique number to register. Email for this.

The exception: Sports team notices and  small groups notices will, in the meantime, continue to be hard copies and sent home in school bags.

Please note that Flexibuzz should not be used to notify absences. Unless you use it for other organisations, we suggest you delete the app.

Tapping into the Parent Resource for Learning

We are looking to develop our community links. To access experts in our community, we need to know what our parent community is good at. It could be your job, it could be your hobby, it could be a passion. We would love to know. If we know what you are great at, we may use your expertise in the classroom. Please take a moment to fill in this short survey to help us access your skills. The database cannot be seen by others but will be available to teachers so they can make contact your interest aligns with a classroom inquiry. First up, we are keen to know who our scientists are!

This is the short form we ask you to use.  Sign in here.

Auckland City Mission Appeal

We are asking for canned food and non perishable food items to donate to the Auckland City Mission.  A box will be provided in each classroom so please send a can of food each day or any day you can. Talk with  your child so that he or she understands why bringing in a can of food helps those in need.

This appeal will run for two weeks and end with a mufti day on Friday 11 May.
