Principal’s Message

Hello everyone/ Kia ora tatou

This is the last school newsletter for 2018. Look out for a letter explaining the school organisation for next year in the envelope with the school report sent home with your children tomorrow.

It has been a milestone year and we celebrate our 5oth birthday with a Twilight Jubilee Gala on 9 March. Put this on your calendar and spread the word to any ex-pupils you know.

Last week we were pleased to host parent helpers for morning tea. We are very grateful to all of you who give your time to make this a better place.

We thank the Year 6 students for their service to our school, evidenced in so many ways, and look forward to acknowledging them all at graduation on Thursday night before sending them off on their next steps in the learning journey. Year 7 teachers will be delighted with their new intake next year.

Thank you to all of you who have supported your children to make the most of learning opportunities offered this year at Mairangi Bay School. We look forward to a stunning 2018 and before that a relaxing break.

Happy holidays

Bruce Warren

Dates for your calendar

Further to the message sent out via Flexibuzz a couple of weeks ago, we would like to confirm that the last day of school for 2017 will be Monday 18 December at 12:30 pm and we will start back on Wednesday 7 February 2018 at 8:55 am. Please make sure your children know they do not need lunch for the last day and what arrangements are for 12.30..walk home as usual or pick up.

Mai Place will be open on Monday 18th December for the morning session only from 7.30am to 8.30am. There will be NO afternoon session.

Walking School Bus

On behalf of the walking school bus community, thank you to everyone who has walked to school this year whether it’s been with the walking school buses or separately with your friends and family. A special mention also goes to Julie Dean who has been running the Kowhai Road walking school bus on and off for about 10 years and will be doing her last walk next week, a big big thank you for all your commitment and enthusiasm.

Amphitheatre Construction

As soon as school closes on Monday next a landscaping company will install safety fencing and begin work on our amphitheatre and shade area. Please note that the Board of Trusteess does not permit unsupervised play in the school grounds after hours. This is stated on the sign at each entrance.  This is especially important in the holiday period when there will be this construction project happening. It is expected to be completed by the end of Janurary in time for school to start. We are grateful to the PTA for its support of this Board funded initiative and look forward to the extra shade that will be so welcome in February.

Stationery from OfficeMax

Back by popular demand the Buy Now, Pay Later promotion will once again allow parents to order all their school stationery in December, before the madness of Christmas, and wait until January to make payment and organise delivery.  When parents order online in December, OfficeMax won’t charge them until they deliver.

Invitation for School Gala/Cultural Food or Performance – March 9th 2018

Mairangi Bay School is 50 years old. As part of these celebrations, we are holding a Twilight Jubilee Gala on Friday 9th March next year from 4.30pm onwards. There will be stalls of ethnic food and a performance area, where we hope to have many acts on stage throughout the evening. Should you or your children wish to take part in the Gala by having a food stall or assisting a group from the same cultural background with a dance or song, or preparing a short cultural item with your child, please email Jeanettes@mairangibay.school.nz no later than Friday 15th December.  We will be sending out another reminder at the beginning of next year but we hope to get an early response for planning purposes. Thank you for your support in making this a special occasion for all of our children.

Garden Army Advocates – http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f4eaeae29abf94-garden

Mairangi Bay’s Garden Army needs your help this summer to keep our gardens growing! If you haven’t heard about it yet, Mairangi Bay Primary is starting a wonderful new gardening programme called the “Garden Army” in 2018. Bunnings Warehouse has kindly donated plants for our gardens to grow and now that our gardens have been planted by your children, the plants are blooming, and now it is time to watch them grow! We cannot make this amazing programme come to life at our school without the help of our awesome parent volunteers. Our gardens need watering or else our children will not be able to experience this brand new, hands-on curriculum being introduced in Term 1, 2018. Watering is simple – and will only take a maximum of 30 min – 1 hour (you can choose whatever works easiest for you). Thanks in advance for your help – we can’t make this work without your help! Please click the link above and sign up for a time slot to make a difference at your school.
