Principal’s Message

Kia ora
We are now nearly half way through the term. The Year 2 – 6 classes have been participating in Basketball sessions over the past few weeks. They have been organised by Ryan McWilliams and Chanel Pompallier from the Breakers. The children are now in training for the School Cross Country which will be held on Friday 1 September. If the weather is bad the races will be held on Monday 4 September.
It was Maths Week last week. The children had the opportunity to participate in activities that involved making estimates and solving problems involving staff members as part of this.

20170818_100131Last Friday the Student Council organised a “Favourite Friday” mufti day. Children could come to school dressed in their favourite clothes or as their favourite sports person or book character. $415.60 was raised for Kids Can which supports disadvantaged Kiwi kids, and to save the Maui Dolphins from extinction. Thank you to our children for their support of these two worthy causes.
This will be a very busy week for two of our teams. The Junior Team will be visiting Ambury Park and the Middles are off to the Tip Top factory. Hopefully, the weather will be fine for their trips.
Let’s hope that the weather will stay sunny for the rest of the week!

Kind regards
Jeanette Smail

unnamedPaper 4 Trees – Native Tree Planting

We have again received at least 20 native plants from the Paper 4 Trees Carbon Reduction Programme for our paper recycling efforts. Many thanks to the nursery, Te Whangai Trust, and sponsors The Lion Foundation and Bin Inn for providing these. The Enviro-group was busy planting them in our Native Tree garden at the entrance to our school last Wednesday.

Whitaker’s Chocolate Fundraiser: Thank you to all families who are participating in the Whitaker’s Chocolate Fundraiser. We have a few boxes left in the office if you require another box. Please make sure you return your money in a named bag or envelope to your child’s teacher. Please aim to have all money in by Thursday 31st August.
It is only through fundraising activities such as this that we are able to raise money for our Amphitheatre for the School. We wish you the best of success with the selling and thank you for your support.

Planting Day: We are making an orchard for our school!  First planting day is Friday 1 September (first day of Spring)! Please come and join in!
Email: chrisberthelsen@gmail.com for details/updates, or just join the PTA Facebook group.

Cool Rides: Countdown is now on to our Cool Rides to School event on Friday 29th September. More details to follow in the next newsletter. We have nearly finalised our list of cool cars and vehicles – this is your absolute last chance to let us know of anyone you know with a really cool ride! This could include a lamborgini, a vintage care, a truck – something for all ages and stages. Email mbspta@gmail.com.
This event is centred on providing a fun and memorable morning for the kids rather than fund-raising  – your support will be greatly appreciated!
