The PTA held the annual Quiz Night on Saturday. This is a popular event on our school calendar, and it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into creating some interesting table themes and costumes. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it an enjoyable evening. A huge thank you to the PTA for their organisation in making the night another great success.
On Friday one of our teachers, Katie Fowles will go on maternity leave. We wish her the best with her preparations for the upcoming birth and hope to have a visit from her and her new baby before the end of the year. We will farewell her in the school assembly on Friday afternoon. Parents are very welcome to attend. In an earlier newsletter Bruce mentioned the appointment of Claire Garnett to replace Katie until the end of the year. She will work from Monday to Wednesday. Sheree Chojnacki has been appointed to work on Thursday and Friday.
The installation of heat pumps during the holidays were appreciated by teachers and children, which meant warm classrooms in the morning during the cold weather we experienced in the first two weeks of the term. However, lets hope that today’s sunshine may mean that warmer weather is on the way!
Welcome to our new students and their families
Thomas Lu, Leo kanayama, Oscar Jin, Hugo Zhou, Dylan Jin, Cinny Wang and Kaia Bates.

Walking School Bus:
Parents and caregivers are invited to join us on Wednesday 9 August at 9 am in the staff-room for a meeting about starting a Walking School Bus. Morning tea provided!
Benefits of a walking school bus for parents: Take turns with other parents walking children to school; Get to know other parents
Benefits for children: It’s fun, social and a healthy way to get to school; Arrive at school energised and ready to learn; Learn about road safety
Benefits for Schools: Students arrive on time; Less congestion at the school gate
Benefits for the community: Families get to know each other; Drivers are more aware of children walking; Fewer cars on the road at peak times
You may live on a walking school bus route that is no longer in action or you may have an idea for a new route. Either way, we would love to hear from you. So please come along to the meeting, or if you are not able to make it but would like to know more, please email Helena on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Congratulations to Kevin Guo, Leo Li and Jason Liu
Congratulations boys! Great work on the New Zealand Robot Olympiad 2017 during the break.
A special mention should be made of Kevin Guo, who was 1st in the Creative Robot competition.
Buster the Walking School Bus mascot paid a visit to our school on Wednesday morning and caused a lot of excitement among the children. As a Travelwise School we promote safe and sustainable ways for students to travel to and from school and would very much like to reduce the traffic congestion at the beginning and the end of the school day. We would like to see more children having the option of walking to school. The Walking School Bus is an ideal way for your children to walk safely to school and we sincerely hope you will attend the Parent Meeting on Wednesday 9 August at 9 am in the staff-room to promote our existing WSB routes and hopefully start up new ones.
Touch Rugby – Term 4:
If you would like your child to play Touch in Term 4 please read the information below.
Dates: Due to a short Term 4, the season is starting earlier than usual, with games beginning in Week 1 of Term 4. Start Dates: Monday 16th (Year 3-6) Tuesday 17th (Year 1-2) and Thursday 19th (Year 1-6).
Venues: Venues cannot be confirmed until the Council allocate all bookings. Sunnynook Park is closed this summer. Local Touch have applied for Freyberg or Becroft Park for Mondays, Mairangi Bay Park for Tuesdays and Becroft Park McFetridge Park for Thursdays. Venues will be known by early September. We know this isn’t ideal, but we ask schools to be patient and flexible when entering teams.
Please get registration forms in by 17th August if you wish your child to play Touch in Term 4, registrations after this date will go on a waitlist. Where possible, I attempt to place your child in a team with friends, however, this is not always possible. The Sports Co-ordinator placement of children in teams is final.
