Principal’s Message

Hello everyone

You may have noticed on the front page of Saturday’s New Zealand Herald, an article asking parents to not post pictures of other people’s children to Facebook or Instagram. It  serves as a timely reminder about the digital footprint that can so easily be created unintentionally. Please be careful about the images you put online and do not post images of other people’s children unless you have permission from the parents concerned.

Our Festival Choir is working hard with Clare McCormack and will be ready to represent our school at the Mid Bays Festival at the Bruce Mason Centre in the first week of July. The dance group is also on track, working with Claire Worthington Blair. Tickets for the two evening performances are selling fast so get in quickly to avoid disappointment. Our children’s artwork is on display in the foyer.

This Friday we host a group of 20 principals from South Korea. They will be here for a short time to learn about leadership and management and our curriculum. Some of our senior Korean students will help as guides taking the group through our classrooms so that they can learn first-hand about what an effective classroom programme looks like here.

The teacher only day before the Queen’s Birthday weekend was most successful. Some of the best teachers from our school presented workshops to share  teaching and learning practice across our community of schools. Our teachers who presented workshops found that they were very well received and our teachers have come back with strategies that they will be trialling in classrooms.

We look forward to the 50 year birthday celebrations for our school in Term 1 next year. I hope to see a number of people put their names forward to help shape this event.

I’m looking forward to the Music Assembly on Friday. All welcome.

Best regards
Bruce Warren, Principal

Mid-Bays Schools Music

The Festival tickets are selling fast – BOOK NOW!  Tickets are available online for the two performances at the Bruce Mason Centre, from 7.00 pm on Wednesday 5 July and Thursday 6 July 2017.  Go to: Mid Bays Schools Music

Please note the school has nothing to do with the ticketing process. Any questions should be directed to Ticketmaster.

As tickets are strictly limited and as we have record numbers of students participating from our Mid Bays schools we recommend you book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Children who are performing do not need tickets!

Our artwork on show to the public

An important part of the Mid Bays Festival is the art display set up in the foyer of the Bruce Mason Centre in Bruce Mason 1 SmallBruce Mason 2Takapuna. Artwork from each of the Mid Bays Schools is on view to the public from now until the performances in the last week of the school term. We thank teachers Annette Hayward and Jan Westerkamp and Mariela Pino, a parent, for creating this display and the many young artists themselves for producing high-quality artwork.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations

Calling past pupils of our school …
Our school is about to have its 50th birthday and it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate. If you would like to be on the team that plans this reunion for Term 1 2018, please email

Auckland Writers Festival

Writers 3Writters Festival 1

Some of our Year 5 & 6 children were lucky enough to attend the Auckland Writer’s Festival last month.

It has been brought to our attention again that some parents are disregarding children’s safety when parking in Agathis Avenue.  Please do not park on the footpath at the entrance to the locked pool car park. It obstructs the walkway, which then forces the children to walk on the road.

The Naked Choir

Please take a look at the choir’s video of Why does love do this to me?

“There has previously been a show on TV called The Naked Choir. We were given a chance to enter and sing the song ‘Why Does Love Do This To Me’? We had a chance to be on air just before the ad breaks. We entered because we had an opportunity to showcase our amazing choir and be in to win spot prizes. What fun it was recording and just missing out on the chance. ” Jack Forsman

 Enviro News

MBS Stream Team

enviro 1EnviroThe MBS Stream Team were testing the water quality of the stream at Centennial Park on Monday 29 May 2017. Hazel Meadows from Waicare was assisting us with the sampling and helping us catch and identify the macroinvertebrates in the stream. (Macroinvertebrates are little bugs that live in the water that can be seen with the naked eye). We found a good mix of species which indicate it is a healthy stream, such as shrimps, damselflies and rounded snails. We also observed a lot of native freshwater fish, banded Kokupu and common Bullys.

Fees are due when you register your child for a sport. It is important that you are sure about your child’s willingness to participate and availability before they are placed in a team. The school website has an online shop where fees can be paid from the convenience of your home or office. Children will only be placed in a team once these fees have been paid. If payment is difficult, parents must contact the Sports Coordinator to make arrangements.
