Decision made!
The decision for our bird’s name has been made. The Board of Trustees considered the shortlisted names for our life long learner bird.

Student favourites: Sparky and Ako
Staff favourites: Manurangi and Ako.
Ako was chosen as the best for several reasons put by the student council
· Fits the learning vision
· Means teaching and learning
· NZ name/Maori
· Short and easy to remember
And because it was the one in common for both groups.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.

We now have a learning vision graphic which is in all classrooms and designed to be a tool to help build clarity for learning. It has taken a long time to get our Life Long Learner bird finished with teachers, students and parents involved shaping it through a long process. Our aim is to have each of our Year 6 students graduate from our school enabled as a life long learner, an effective thinker and communicator with physical, emotional and social capabilities who strives for self improvement and to contribute to the communities s/he belongs to. You will notice the aviator goggles conveying a sense of adventure. Rangitoto and the school logo provide a sense of identify and the altitude indicates achievement. Our learner is ambitious and seeks to soar to new heights. Our school values in the tail feathers guide flight and the five learning keys hang around the neck viz.. relating to others, thinking, managing self, communicating, and contributing (which are the key competencies from the New Zealand Curriculum).
We launch a competition to name our Life Long Learner bird. We need a name that captures the essence of the soar to new heights message. The student council and staff will shortlist from all entries and the Board of Trustees will make the final decision.
Entries have closed and are now being considered by students and staff.
The final decision will be made by the Board of Trustees.
